The finding or development

Forum analysis shifted the brief from physical monitoring towards social and emotional life after colorectal cancer treatment. Those insights informed a diary prototype; participants reported potential value for reflection and communication.

What supports it

Peer-reviewed exploratory case: analysis of 212,107 forum posts, expert-supported journey mapping, then a diary prototype and interviews with four patients.

Reviewed: Publisher abstract and main-text sections on the design process, findings and limitations; supplements and analysis code not audited.

Why it matters for design

Trace how evidence changed the problem definition before a prototype was built. Useful for documenting research-to-design decisions in a portfolio.

Read with this in mind

One designer, four participants and English-language forum selection limit transferability. Positive feedback does not establish clinical benefit or prototype effectiveness; offline experiences remain underrepresented.
